Dear all Forum members...

I've noticed that recently the posts have begun to dry up somewhat. I know it must be hard as you are all probably running out of pictures of O' Sensei and that your own archives may be dwindling.

Please, please don't hesitate to post any pictures or anecdotes of yourselves, even if they don't include O' Sensei. After all, we are all where we are because of Phil, so even if any stories don't include Phil just keep the pics and stories coming. That alone keeps his memory alive.

We are all now in the safe and capable hands of Hanshi Josh Johnson, our President. Keeping the true spirit of the Martial Arts and Budo alive.

So dig deep and keep it coming...

Yours in Budo

Well said Dave

Just a couple of things that spring to mind still to this day that i try not to do:-.
1 - whenever asked a question never, ever say "i don't know"
and
No2 whenever out shopping in Next or Topman etc never ever buy a GREEN belt.

I remember the consequences all too painfully.

Yours in Budo

Phil's IBA Family Empty The dreaded green belt

Post  sans hiza Mon Mar 30, 2009 2:01 pm

I along with the late Sensei Eric Lewis attended the last course O-Sensei Phil held at our Wakefield dojo. At the time, I was a Green Belt and the only one on the course and have never been picked on by one person so much in all my life!!! I kept looking at Eric and Josh to see if they would give me a hint as to why O-Sensei Phil kept having a "go" at me but was met instead with a deadpan look from both of them that basically said don't moan and get on with the training. I was using parts of my body to do press ups that I never realised or knew would take my weight.

Later, on the way home I asked Eric why I had been signalled out at every opportunity as at one stage during the training, I was that mad I wanted to quit and leave. Eric had been smirking ever since we left the dojo and when I mentioned this to him, he almost crashed the car laughing.

It was then that he told me why O-Sensei Phil "hated" Green Belts!! I was aching so much from all the training that although I could see the funny side, I was in too much pain to laugh. I remember the course as if it were held only yesterday!!

Unfortunately for me, that was the first and last time I trained with O-Sensei Phil but at least I can say I did.

Regards
